Kids Knitwork Story

The Story

Kids love to explore and work with yarn.  They are enthralled by the different colors and textures of yarn.  They love seeing how in their own two hands simple strings can be transformed into whimsical toys, beautiful scarves, colorful flowers, trendy hair accessories, necklaces, bracelets, and so much more!

Some years ago I started teaching knitting classes at my kids' elementary school as part of an after school enrichment program.  I realized that children as young as 5 or 6 years old are able to learn to knit with needles and make simple projects, such as a coin purse or a pillow.  At the same time I observed that learning to knit with needles can be taxing on a young child.  In order to avoid frustrations I introduced fingerknitting and fiber arts into my knitting curriculum.  This was an immediate success.  Kids loved completing the whole project in one hour and being able to wear it or share it with a friend, mom, teacher, etc.  The Knitting and Fiber Art Parties are built around these projects.  I now offer camps during school holidays and vacations, as well as classes during the school year.  I've created a facebook page to easily share pictures of the kids' creations - check it out at www.facebook.com/KidsKnitwork

About myself

Knitting has been my passion for as long as I can remember, peaking during my teenage years when I knit everything from gloves and scarves to sweaters and dresses.  I am grateful for the opportunity to share my love of knitting with you and your kids.  Check out all the fun things I offer by selecting from the contents menu on the left.

Happy Knitting!
Ms. Larisa
